Why feathers? 
The feather is seen as a powerful symbol that can signify a connection between the owner, the Creator, and the bird from which the feather came from.
It also stands for trust, honor, strength, wisdom, power, and freedom.
Some tribes see the feather as an object that is deeply revered and a sign of high honor
 
What is the purpose of a feather wand?
Feather Wands or Smudge Wands can be used for smudging ceremonies to fan the smoke of  sacred herbs or sage around a space or a person to clear negative energies.
Ttraditionally it has also been used to fan the smoke towards the sky during prayer as it is seen as representative of the element air.
